Stuck-

First of all, speak with the financial aid department at the college you completed your bachelor's degree at. They will have resources for students in your predicament and will be able to put you in contact with those agencies that can assist you so that you can either enter grad school (if you choose), or receive your diploma.

Secondly, I can understand about the income on foodstamps, however because you are now unemployed, have one child to feed, and are out of unemployment funds you should qualify for emergency food stamps, and receive them until you have employment. Here is the link to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) in SC, that should help you. Their number is even toll free, so give them a call and explain the situation. They will probably suggest you fill out another application, so do that as soon as possible and get in there! The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

You may also wish to speak to them about child support enforcement. Their same offices can put you in contact with a caseworker who will make sure you are receiving those monies.

Most food stamp offices, along with unemployment offices have some sort of job core. Speak to them about putting you into contact with agencies that go through their agencies to hire people. It may not be the job you carry a bachelor's degree for, but at least it is work. I found a website called South Carolina's Highway that has a great wealth of resources for employment. Start making some phone calls.

In terms of your son, speak with his school social worker. Let them know right away what is going on and ask them for community resources. You'd be surprised at how in touch with the community a school is!

I'm not sure what faith you are but start contacting local churches in your area. Most have programs for benevolance funds that can aid you in one time payments per year for various items. Also, contact the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, and United Way agencies in your area. All of them have funds available to help those in your situation.

Blessings,Anora
